Excerpt
'You are surely the most impulsive person I have ever met.'
If I was in the physical plane, I would’ve grinned. That was Mowan’s voice.
'So, I assume you got the idea?' I asked.
'I did. I would have preferred a more peaceful alternative, but if this is the only way…'
Twenty two souls, not including myself. One by one the souls started flickering and dimming. One by one, the crowd was fainting in the physical realm as Mowan and I hampered their consciousnesses through the spiritual realm. I could only take down maybe two and a half—one and a half of which was the chunky merchant—before I was mentally exhausted. Mowan proceeded to take down the others.
You know that feeling you get when your back is to a hot campfire? It’s comfortable at first, but before long it starts getting a little too warm. I was getting a similar feeling, but without the preliminary comfort. It was just sheer force against my currently ethereal back. Curious, I turned around.
I immediately wished I hadn’t.
It was back. Well, really, I should say it was still there. I doubted that it had ever really left.
The Soul Scream.
Mowan heard—felt would be a more appropriate term for the spiritual realm—my surprise and dread and turned around as well to see what the problem was.
His soul flickered just like the souls of the mob.
Mowan had fainted.
